The first medal for the Philippines!

The country’s representatives finished second overall against defending champion Vietnam in the men’s beach handball event held Tuesday night (May 10), taking home the silver medal – the Philippines’ first in this edition of the SEA Games currently being held in Hanoi.

The Filipino team gave their opponents a tough fight, dominating in the first period, 18-14.

However, the defending champions made a comeback in the second period, 21-14, which forced both teams into a shootout that the Vietnam team eventually won, 10-8.

Vietnam remains undefeated in the event with 5 wins to its name. It’ll be battling Thailand today (Wednesday) for its last match.

Meanwhile, the PH national team, who’ve already secured the silver medal with 3-2, will face off against Singapore on the same day.

This win is an improvement from the team’s bronze medal in the 2019 edition of the SEA Games, which was held in the Philippines.
