The Philippines has once again made waves on the international sporting stage after its Filipino delegation bagged multiple medals at the 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held in Goyang, South Korea.

Team Philippines won a total of five medals at the event – one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals – placing above other participating Southeast Asian nations like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.

Leading the country’s medal haul in the prestigious martial arts competition is Filipino jin Ernesto Guzman Jr., who snatched gold for the Philippines in the Recognized Individual Male Under 50 category. 

Taking home silver are the duo of Ian Matthew Corton and Maria Nicole Labayne, who competed in the Recognized Pair Junior category. The pairing of Kobe Macario and Juvenile Faye Crisostomo also won silver in the Freestyle Pair Over 17 category.

Meanwhile, Darius Venerable and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. both took home bronze medals in their respective categories.

In last year’s edition, the country’s representatives managed to take home ten medals and special awards at the World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Championships in Beirut, Lebanon.
