The Philippine pageant scene is rejoicing after the country’s bet – Michelle Arceo – took home the Miss Ecosystem title in this year’s edition of the Miss Environment International.

The Filipina beauty queen trumped candidates representing different nations around the world and placed second overall in the competition held in Mumbai, India on April 2 ( April 3 in PH).

Ultimately, Belgium’s Kayra Wouters was named the first-ever Miss Environment International.

Completing the top five are:

  • 2nd runner-up, Miss Biodiversity: Sky Amelia, South Sudan
  • 3rd runner-up, Miss Aqua: Mariel Zuñiga, Peru
  • 4th runner up, Miss Fauna: Jemy Mandem, Zimbabwe

Besides being the first runner-up, Arceo also received two special awards: the Best in Environmental Video and Best in National Costume.

After her winning stint in the inaugural pageant, Arceo thank all of the people who supported and helped her prepare for the contest.

“To everyone who made this journey possible. Thank you for filling my heart with so much love and support. I am so proud to have carried the Philippine sash across my heart and raise our flag on the international stage. I know I gave my absolute all and I promise I will work even harder next time! I’m not quitting here. If one door closes another will open,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“Thank you to my core team for making me into the queen I am today. Without each and every one of you, I couldn’t have succeeded. It truly takes a village to create a queen,” Arceo added.
