After five years of waiting, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is finally here!
On Wednesday (April 27), President Rodrigo Duterte led the inauguration of the bridge, which connects Cebu City and the town of Cordova.
In his speech during the ceremony, Duterte expressed gratitude to the Cebu City Government and Cordova Municipal Government, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC), who managed to complete the project despite the difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Your support for this administration’s goal to boost regional development, provide a comfortable life for every Filipino, and realize our vision of a strongly united nation is truly commendable,” he said.
“Your hard work and dedication to ensure the completion of this monumental task are equally noteworthy,” Duterte added.
Although the CCLEX has been inaugurated, CCLEC said it will be available to motorists at a later date.
However, once operational, the 8.9-kilometer CCLEX is expected to improve mobility in the province and boost the local economy. It will also help decongest main roads by accommodating 50,000 vehicles daily.
Its design speed is 60-80 kilometers per hour and has a navigational clearance or height of 52 meters, which allows large vessels to pass underneath it.
According to MPTC chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said the P33 billion bridge project would boost business and investment in Cebu.
“It will bring in more investments, stimulate trade and commerce, revitalize tourism, and give a collective sense of pride among its people,” he said.
