The long wait is over! The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge will finally be accessible to motorists as its inauguration has been set for tomorrow April 5.

According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary and Build Build Build Chief Implementer Emil Sadain, this new bridge will facilitate the travel of vehicles between Binondo and Intramuros, which is among the busiest districts in Manila.

“With the bridge’s opening, there will be a new and faster connectivity between Binondo and Intramuros which are two (2) of the most busy districts in the City of Manila,” said Sadain, who’s also the man-in-charge of DPWH’s Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations.

DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado said the new pathway is capable of accommodating 30,000 vehicles daily and will alleviate congestion on Metro Manila roads.

Apart from this, the bridge will also be bike-friendly. A bike lane has been set up along the infrastructure to accommodate cyclists.

Before the year ends, protected pedestrian walkways will also be installed. DPWH says “the fabricated access staircases for the built-in protected pedestrian walkways in the extended off side of the bridge is expected to arrive from Shanghai, China by May and will be completely installed within one (1) month period or by June 2022.”

The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge Project is part of two bridge projects funded by China under the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build Program. The other one was the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, which opened last July 2021.

This new bridge , which has a total length of 680-lineal meters, will connect Intramuros at Solana Street and Riverside Drive to Binondo at Rentas Street and Muelle dela Industria.
