Though 2022 is just starting, PLDT is already building plans for the future—literally.
The top telco company has officially kicked off the construction of its latest, ambitious project in Laguna—the VITRO Sta. Rosa Data Center. This new structure will be the largest hyperscale data center in the country and is expected to rise in 2023.
“We’ve been planning this for a long time. This is a real hyperscaler that we’re building here today and the groundbreaking is the proof,” PLDT President Al Panlilio said in a statement.
According to Panlilio, this new facility will position the country as the next digital hub and hyperscaler destination in Asia-Pacific.
“The PLDT Group is one with the nation in building a digitally advanced Philippines and making our country the next hyperscaler destination in Asia-Pacific,” he said.
Apart from that, it’s also set to boost connectivity in the Philippines by lowering costs of data and improving customer experience.
To bring this project into reality, the MVP group, PLDT’s parent company, has partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Information and Communications (DICT), Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), and the local government of Laguna.
PLDT also tapped the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to ensure that the facility, which is the 11th state-of-the-art data center to be built in the country, is supplied with enough power.
Meralco SVP and Head of Networks Ronnie Aperocho said Sta. Rosa is the ideal place for this massive project as it has a huge power capacity. The new VITRO data center will have access to a secure power corridor surrounded by substations in Sta. Rosa, Calauan, Biñan, and soon, Calamba.
For the facility’s design, which will be based on global LEED standards, PLDT collaborated with RED Engineering.
“A facility of this caliber only ensures the best possible customer experience not only for our hyperscale clients, but also for the Filipino end-users consuming their services,” Panlilio explained.
“We at PLDT Group are committed to providing world-class services to our global enterprise clients and enabling the digital transformation of the country and the Filipino people,” he added.
