Team Lakay’s Eduard Folayang proved naysayers wrong and showed he’s still in it to win it after defeating Australian John Wayne Parr at ONE X in Singapore on Saturday (March 26).

The Baguio-based fighter, who managed his first win since 2019, gave an action-packed performance against Parr ultimately dominating the fight.

For the majority of the bout, Folayang made sure to be the one to control the reigns -strategically using his sidekick to keep Parr at a safe distance.

However, in the second round, the 37-year-old fighter connected a big right hand behind Parr’s ear sending him down.

Although the odds were seemingly against him, Parr, who was on his last career match, pressed on landing a huge flying knee that knocked Folayang off balance.

Luckily, Folayang was able to stand his ground and weather the hit.

“It’s a privilege of mine fighting him,” Folayang said. “He may be retiring but I’m sure martial arts is his life, ” added the 3-time Southeast Asian games gold medalist in wushu.

For his part, Parr expressed his gratitude to fans at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“This is my last one. It’s been an absolute joy to be a martial artist in 35 years. Just thanking all the fans,” said the muay thai veteran who couldn’t contain his emotions.

“It’s been an absolute honor. If ever you visit Australia, come to my gym and enjoy a session.”

After this fight, Parr finished his career with a record of 99-35-1. Meanwhile, Folayang improved his to 23-12.
