The first phase of LRT-1’s Cavite Extension Project is coming even closer to fruition after construction work on the much-awaited transportation infrastructure achieved another milestone.

According to the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the casting of the last pi-girder for the extension’s viaduct has already been undertaken last January 29. With this, a total of 203 pi-girders have been put in place.

“Today we celebrate another milestone as we are casting the LAST pi-girder for the viaduct of LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1,” LRMC wrote in a post.

“It’s only been a little over 2 years since the civil works began in September 2019. That’s a total of 203 pi-girders from the future Dr. A Santos Station until Redemptorist,” it added.

After this, LRMC said their next goal is to finish Phase 1’s viaduct.

Once completed, the Php 64.9-billion LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will add 11.7-kilometer to the existing 18.1-kilometer train line. The new segment will run from Baclaran to Bacoor and will have eight stations.

The extension’s first phase will have five stations, running from the Redemptorist Church area in Baclaran and Dr. Santos Ave. in Parañaque. It’s expected to start partial operations in the first quarter of 2024.
