After undergoing a series of vital improvements, the Salomague Port is now ready to bring in more tourists and improve mobile connectivity in Ilocos Sur, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
With the port’s strengthened and expanded form, Transportation Secretary Art Tugade says the region will experience a significant boost in the areas of tourism, trade, and economic development.
On top of this, the renovated facility will also offer a more comfortable and safer experience for both passengers and workers.
As part of its overhaul, the Salomague Port underwent notable changes when it comes to its structure.
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), who spearheaded the repair of the facility, created a new, reinforced concrete platform back-up area. In addition, the RC Pier was also extended from 140 meters to 543 meters so the harbor can accommodate more ships.
It was officially re-opened in July this year.
Here’s a before and after.
