After undergoing significant rehabilitation, the Port of Roxas is now ready to return to duty!
The harbor, which is located in Oriental Mindoro, was officially inaugurated by President Rodrigo Duterte. The port was part of eight other projects that were initiated in the region on November 18 (Thursday).
According to Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, who was also present during the inauguration ceremony, the port plays an important role in the region not only for economic reasons but also for tourism as it serves as the primary ‘jump-off point’ for travelers going to Malay, Aklan – where Boracay is situated.
“Ang Port of Roxas sa Oriental Mindoro ay ang pangunahing jump-off point patungo sa bayan ng Malay sa Aklan, kung saan matatagpuan ang isla ng Boracay,” Tugade wrote on Facebook.
As part of its upgrade, Roxas Port received a new back-up area, an RC platform, a Ro-ro ramp, and a new Port Lighting System.
With these upgrades now in place, the port will now be able to perform significantly better, providing a more comfortable experience for users.
It’s also expected to boost the region’s connectivity as well as improve visitation and the economy.
“Dahil dito, handa na po ang Port of Roxas sa muling pagdagsa ng mga turista. Makatutulong ito ng husto sa pag-unlad ng ekonomiya ng Mindoro, at sa mas pagpapalawak pa ng koneksyon nito sa mga karatig lugar,” Tugade explained.
