After 15 years, the Philippines’ national bowling team has finally ended its medal drought in the International Bowling Federation (IBF) Super World Championships, bagging two bronze medals in the recently concluded competition held in Dubai from November 6 to 15, 2021.

The Filipino bowlers won a total of two bronze medals—one in the men’s team category and another in the women’s team leg. This marked the country’s return to the podium with the last being Biboy Rivera, who won gold in 2006.

With this, the Philippines placed 10th in the final medal rankings of the 2021 IBF championship.

According to Rivera, who served as head coach of the men’s team, the medal haul has been a long time coming.

“It has been a long time since the Philippine Men and Ladies Teams have had a medal at the World Championships. It is extra special to have won it at the same time. Bronze feels like Gold!” He wrote in a Facebook post.
