After staying in limbo for a few years, the renovation of the Calapan Port is now on track, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

In a Facebook post, the department gave an update on the harbor’s ongoing modernization, which is being undertaken together with the Philippine Ports Association (PPA).

As part of its redevelopment, the Port of Calapan will receive new facilities including a Passenger Terminal Building, which the DOTr says will be the biggest in the country.

On top of this, a new access road has been built to better accommodate people traveling to and from the port.

According to Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, once operational, the port will open new opportunities for the people of Oriental Mindoro, specifically on the aspect of employment.
