The bantamweight world title fight between World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire and challenger Reymart Gaballo has been made official.
The match, which features an all-Filipino line-up, will be held on December 11 in Carson, California.
The bout, which was necessitated by the WBC itself two months ago, will serve as the main event of a tripleheader even to be broadcast by Showtime.
Donaire, who won the WBC title six months ago, became the oldest boxer to hold the title. The 38-year-old managed the feat by knocking out Frenchman Nordine Oubaali.
Similarly, Gaballo is no pushover. The 25-year-old holds an impressive undefeated record of 24-0, 20 of which are knockouts.
However, in this matchup, Gaballo has a lot more to prove, especially after his split decision win against Emmanuel Rodriguez for the vacant WBC interim belt last December, which many believed should have been the Puerto Rican’s victory.
