The Philippines is again making headlines all over the world in the field of sports after Filipina weightlifter Rose Jean Ramos claimed two gold and one silver medal at the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth World Championships in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Ramos competed in the women’s 45kg division of the event, ruling the snatch by lifting 67kg and acquiring a total of 147kg.
Meanwhile, she settled for silver in the clean and jerk lifting 80kg.
In the overall rankings, Poland’s Oliwia Drzazga snagged the silver with a total lift of 143kg, while Indonesia’s Najla Khoirunnisa finished bronze with 142kg.
The 16-year-old’s win comes a day after Jeaneth Hipolito claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 48kg division.
In the snatch, Hipolito lifted 52kg on her third attempt behind Turkey’s Ezgi Kilic who lifted 55kg, and Colombia’s Velez Estrada with 53kg.
She finished fifth in the clean and jerk and lifted a total of 114kg throughout.
