The Philippine Post (PHLPost) has released a set of stamps commemorating Filipino basketball legend Robert “Sonny” Jaworski.
The stamps were officially released on Sunday (October 17) as part of the agency’s 75th anniversary.
According to PHLPost, the Jaworski Stamp – as they call it – is only the first part of its “SALAMAT – Pagpupugay sa mga Alamat” series, which aims to highlight and give appreciation to the contributions of great Filipinos.
“His legendary status and his popularity are the result of his discipline, dedication, and passion on and off the court – and his “Never Say Die” attitude. The Post Office recognizes Jaworski, Philippine Sports Hall of Fame inductee, for his contributions to the field of Philippine basketball,” the organization said in a statement.
Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr., Jaworski’s son, attended the event and read a letter written by his father, who expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“To be included in the list of people who have been chosen by your esteemed corporation, to be considered legends of our time, let me express my profound gratitude for this great, great honor,” Dodot read during the ceremony at PhilPost’s head office in Manila Saturday (October 16).
Jaworski’s former teammate and fellow legend Mon Fernandez, current Ginebra players LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, Stanley Pringle, Joe DeVance, Scottie Thompson, Mark Caguioa, and PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial were also present during the event.
