The Philippines has once again topped the list of leading beach and diving destinations in Asia, according to the 2021 World Travel Awards (WTA).

The honor has been bestowed to the country multiple times—five as Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and three consecutive times for Asia’s Leading Dive Destination award.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the recent recognition validates the effort they’ve been putting in to promote the country as a viable getaway destination even during the pandemic.

“We are elated that the country’s pristine beaches and mesmerizing dive spots have once again been cited as the best in Asia by the prestigious 2021 World Travel Awards,” she said.

“We share this recognition with our tourism stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies, and all Filipinos who have been helping us promote our country’s attractions, products, and culture,” Romulo-Puyat added.

Though the Philippines is still under the COVID-19 health crisis, a handful of beach destinations have started opening up to tourists like Boracay, Siargao, and Palawan.

Apart from these two awards, high-end Palawan resort Amanpulo was also recognized as Asia’s leading private island resort for 2021.

The Philippines is still in the running for the following world categories:

  • World’s Leading Beach Destination 2021
  • World’s Leading Dive Destination 2021
  • World’s Leading Island Destination 2021: Siargao, Philippines
  • World’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2021: Intramuros, Philippines
  • World’s Leading Tourist Board 2021: Department of Tourism

Voting ends on October 25 at midnight.
