Filipinos excel in a lot of different fields and dance is one of them.
A testament to that excellence is how the Philippine para-dance sports team emerged victorious in the recently concluded 2021 Polish Open World Qualifying Round held in Lomianki, Poland.
The Pinoy delegation won a total of 19 medals with seven gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals, earning them a slot in the World Para Dance Sport Championships to be held in Ulsan, Korea this November.
Leading the Filipino representatives was Edelyn De Asis, who won four gold medals in three single and one duo events, wherein she partnered with Christian Apolinario.
Julius Jun Obrero and Rhea Marquez, who competed in the combi Latin class 2 event, won gold, too.
The pairing of Jhona Peña and Joey Maglasang completed the country’s gold medal haul after dominating the duo standard class 2 event.
Meanwhile, the silver medals were obtained by Obrero in the solo men class 2 and the duo of Apolinario and Jhistine Gylde Baguio for combi Latin class. The tandem of De Asis and Shaquille Hanz Basan also won the silver in the combi Latin class 2.
Anne Charlaine Santos and Jed Villaruel, who took part in the freestyle combi class 2 event, won bronze. Santos partnered with Apolinario in duo Latin class 2 and clinched another bronze.
Apolinario and Maglasang won 1 bronze medal each for solo men class 1 and solo men class 2 freestyle, respectively.
