The Philippines is considered one of the best tourist destinations around the world, specifically for its pristine beaches, unique landscapes, and naturally welcoming people.
That’s why the country has been on countless lists featuring the all-time best places to visit abroad.
This year, that list has grown once more, specifically with the country gaining five nominations from the prestigious 28th World Travel Awards.
In an announcement released on Wednesday night (October 13), the Department of Tourism (DOT) called on Filipinos and foreign travelers alike to show their support and vote for the Philippines in the following categories:
- World’s Leading Beach Destination 2021
- World’s Leading Dive Destination 2021
- World’s Leading Island Destination 2021 (Siargao Island)
- World’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2021 (Intramuros)
- World’s Leading Tourist Board 2021
To vote, the public only needs to register at www.worldtravelawards.com/vote. The voting period is until October 25 midnight.
The Philippines will compete against Jamaica, Maldives, Thailand, Cancun in Mexico, Maui in Hawaii, Miami Beach and Key West in Florida, Thailand, Diani Beach in Kenya, Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, Peleponnese in Greece, Plettenberg Bay in South Africa, Riviera Maya in Mexico and seven others for WTA’s World’s Leading Beach Destination title.
Meanwhile, it joins the likes of Azores Islands, Bora Bora in French Polynesia, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Maldives, and Mexico in the World’s Leading Dive Destination category
This is not the first time the country was nominated in the WTA, though.
In 2020, the country bagged two awards from the competition, specifically the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction, which was given to the Walled City of Intramuros, and the World’s Leading Dive Destination.
