The proposed Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT-4) is coming closer to reality!
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially inked a deal with Spanish consulting firm IDOM on Friday (October 1) to design the new MRT-4 Project, which will link parts of Quezon City and Rizal.
IDOM will be tasked with handling the preliminary design, detailed engineering, tender designs, financial and economical assessments, and bidding documents of the said railway project.
MRT-4 will span a total of 15.56km and will host 11 stations, which will be erected in the following areas:
- N. Domingo
- Col. Bonny Serrano
- Meralco Ave.
- St. Joseph
- Cainta Junction
- Tikling Junction
- Manila East Road
Once finished, the Php P1.4 billion-rail transit line will ease the massive traffic problem and limited road capacities in the over-populated eastern part of the metropolis, specifically in Mandaluyong, San Juan, Quezon, Pasig, and municipalities of Cainta and Taytay.
According to DOTr, the MRT-4 project will begin construction by the second quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, the city government of Rizal expects partial operability to commence by 2025.
On the other hand, the design stage will be accomplished in the late quarter of 2021.
