Poblacion, the center of Makati’s nightlife, has been named as one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world by the global travel and leisure magazine Time Out.
The hub, which is known for its hip dining, nabbed the 46th spot in the annual list of ” the greatest places for food, fun, culture and community.”
“Just around the corner from Makati’s Central Business District, you’ll find Poblacion: a treasure trove of hole-in-the-wall restaurants and speakeasies,” Time Out wrote in their “World’s 49 Coolest Neighbourhoods” roster released on October 6.
According to the magazine, Poblacion was once considered a red-light district, however, it has transformed itself into one of the most in-demand hangout places in Metro Manila, specifically for eating and drinking.
“Once best known for its red-light district, the area today brims with old apartments-turned-businesses and hostels that draw an eclectic mix of locals and visitors from the 15 other districts that make up Manila,” the magazine said.
Although the pandemic has forced a lot of restaurants and commercial establishments to close down, Poblacion is still thriving.
“The pandemic has made most indoor dining a no-go even now, but an array of outdoor galleries, rooftop bars, and open-air art spaces mean it’s still pretty easy to have fun here.”
For those interested in visiting, Time Out recommends going to Agimat Foraging and Kitchen Bar and Alamat, Goto Monster, and to take a “stroll around the Makati Poblacion Park, and explore Makati Museum and seventeenth-century St Peter’s Church.”
The magazine said the best time to visit the area is in June when the Bailes Delos Arcos Festival is being celebrated by locals.
