Just a few months more and we’ll finally be able to see the conclusion of the P30-billion Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

The megastructure is now even closer to completion after its main bridge was finally connected on Tuesday (October 5).

According to the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and subsidiary Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC), the expressway now links the island of Mactan and Cebu.

“We are finally at the tail end of the construction of our CCLEX project and I, together with my colleagues, share the incredible pride in this milestone achievement,” MPTC President Rodrigo E. Franco shared in a statement.

The bridge, which spans 8.5 kilometers in total, is set to officially open in the first quarter of 2022. And at present, it’s now 88.34 percent completed.

“After today’s main bridge deck connection, we look forward to another milestone and that is opening CCLEX to the public in the first quarter of 2022. We can’t wait to see Cebuanos enjoy the ultimate expressway experience afforded by using this bridge,” said CCLEC President and General Manager Allan Alfon.

Once finished, the expressway will improve transportation between the cities of Mactan and Cebu. Its design will also allow large water vessels to pass safely under the bridge.

It will use an electronic toll collection system once opened to motorists.
