The travel of goods going to and from Cagayan has been significantly enhanced thanks to the overhaul of the Claveria Port, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
According to Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, the municipality of Claveria was only making use of a makeshift port before they took on the project.
“Noon, walang maayos na daungan ang mga pasahero at kalakal sa Claveria, Cagayan,” Tugade wrote in a Facebook post.
However, the DOTr, in collaboration with the Philippines Ports Authority (PPA), took action to address the issue.
As part of its upgrade, the Claveria Port was reconstructed to include a new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and a new back-up area. Repairs on the port’s causeway were also undertaken to further improve the pier’s efficiency.
The rehabilitation of the port officially started in 2017 and finished in October 2019. It was inaugurated in February of 2020.
