After being out of action during the league’s hiatus in August, the NLEX Road Warriors made sure that their first match of the continued Philippine Cup in Pampanga will make more than just a splash.
On Thursday (September 2), the Road Warriors showed their supremacy over team Alaska, defeating the Aces 84-74 at the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) Gym in Bacolor.
At the start of the match, both teams were pretty equal in play – not giving any chance to one-up each other. However, NLEX came out on top at the end of the first quarter with the score at 20-19.
But the Aces refused to back down gaining momentum at the beginning of the third quarter to outscore NLEX 15-4 in the first five minutes, taking a 52-42 lead.
Alaska’s advantage didn’t last long though as NLEX’s Kevin Alas, Jericho Cruz, veteran big man JR Quinahan took charge in reclaiming the lead, which resulted in 59-55 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Alaska remained unable to close the score gap, which gave NLEX the win.
With this, the Road Warriors now have three wins in the opener of the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) 46th season.
