Megaworld Corporation is gearing up to develop three new townships in Luzon this year, according to its Chief Strategy Officer and Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI) Chief Executive Kevin Andrew Tan.
Tan said they’re thinking of putting up the townships somewhere between this year and the next.
“We want to expand, we are actually looking to launch at least three townships between now and next year in various parts of the Philippines, and then we are also very bullish about tourism even though right now, the situation is quite bleak,” he told BusinessWorld‘s during its Crisis Insight’s Business Tycoons series.
According to Tan, the concept for the township became really ‘ideal’ and ‘compelling’ to them during the pandemic, wherein people, specifically office workers, are looking for convenient places to reside for their jobs.
Tan also believes that Megaworld’s township concept could effectively drive economic development if done in other parts of the country.
“There’s [a] tremendous amount of opportunities to go out outside Metro Manila to the countryside and promote economic development there and we believe that our unique brand of townships enables us to do this, to create jobs,” he shared.
Apart from this new project, Megaworld is also planning to go back on track when it comes to building office spaces.
The company said it’s going to return to creating 100,000 sq.m. of office spaces by next year. Their operations were slowed down by half when the pandemic hit.
Currently, the company has a total of 1.2 million sq.m of office structures and they plan to reach 2 million by 2030.
