The free MRT-3 and LRT-2 rides for authorized persons outside of residence (APORs) and vaccinated frontline workers will be extended to September 15, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The extension of the initiative was announced on Tuesday after the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) classification of Metro Manila and surrounding areas was extended to mid-month.
Those eligible for the rides include APORs who’ve received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and those that have been fully inoculated and are working in the frontlines. A vaccination card and proof of working status are all that’s required to avail of the service.
For those using the MRT-3, rates are waived during peak hours: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, at LRT-2, free rides are scheduled as follows: 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.; 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
According to the DOTr, more than 1.7 million passengers have availed of the free rides since its implementation back on August 3 during the enhanced community quarantine period.
Besides the MRT-3 and LRT-2, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) is also conducting a similar program for its users.
