Philippine-born US Chess Grandmaster Wesley So has once again made history after claiming his third title at the ongoing Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.
So saw himself the victor of the Chessable Masters leg of the tournament triumphing against Liem Quang Le of Vietnam on August 8.
With this victory, So adds another $30,000 to his cash prize, which brings his total winnings to $179,580. The 27-year-old also snatched the top-most title for two of the tour’s categories, specifically the Skilling Open and the Euro Opera Rapid.
The Cavite-born chess wiz is now second in the overall rankings only separated from first place Magnus Carlsen by only 34 points.
According to So, his goal is to face Carlsen in the competition. Carlsen opted out of the Chessable Masters.
“My goal is just to force Magnus to show up!” So said.

Meanwhile, the Final event is scheduled for September 25 to October 4. Here, the top 8 participants will battle it out for $300,000.
