An improved and rehabilitated Virac Airport is now ready to serve the public, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The airport, located in the Bicol region, is now equipped with a new passenger terminal building (PTB) and a new drainage system.

The re-blocking of the taxiway, strip width correction, and new asphalt overlays were also part of the repair initiative. Aside from this, the damage sustained by the terminal building during last year’s Typhoon Rolly has also been addressed.

Transportation Secretary Art Tugade said the repair and the upgrading of the airport were undertaken with the help of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Tugade notes that the new features will greatly improve the airport’s service capabilities and will keep passengers comfortable during their stay.

“Ngayon, mas maginhawa, kumportable, at kaaya-aya na po ang hatid na serbisyo ng Virac Airport para sa ating mga kababayan sa Catanduanes,” the transport secretary said.

According to Tugade, the completion of the Virac Airport Rehabilitation Project will open new opportunities for the region, specifically in the aspects of economics, tourism, and trade.
