The ongoing rehabilitation of Camiguin Airport is not only poised to improve how it serves its passengers but it’s also expected to bolster its region’s economic and tourism sector said the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

According to Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, the once overcrowded airport has been transformed to better accommodate flyers.

Under the agency’s renovation scheme, which was a collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the airport received a new passenger terminal building (PTB) more than doubling its passenger capacity.

Besides this, the airport’s runway slope was also overhauled and is being extended. It also received a new administration building and a fire station.

Meanwhile, work is continuing on the airport’s runway, which is undergoing asphalt overlay expected to be finished by September.

According to Tugade, the tourism, economic, and trade sector of the region will benefit greatly from the rehabilitation of Camiguin Airport.
