The 2021 iteration of Miss Philippines Earth—held virtually on Sunday (August 8)—has crowned Parañaque City’s representative Naelah Alshorbaji as its winner
Alshorbaji, who bested 66 other candidates for this year’s crown, will officially represent the country in Miss Earth’s international leg.
The 23-year-old will succeed last year’s winner Roxanne Allison Baeyens, who brought home the Miss Earth-Water crown last year.
According to Alshorbaji, she’ll use her new platform to raise awareness on her advocacy, which deals with waste repurposing.
“I plan to use my title to promote my advocacy of turning plastic waste to usable products. I’ve been doing this for three years now,” she told Inquirer in a phone interview after her coronation on Sunday.
“It is something good for society, something that will benefit us economically and environmentally,” she added.
During the pageant’s Q&A portion, the top 10 candidates were asked how they plan to achieve their goals in life with the pandemic still ongoing.
This was Alshorbaji’s winning answer: “Despite the restrictions in terms of pandemic, we have social media for us to progress and move forward. I think that’s the beauty of the generation that we are going through right now. Moving forward, I think I could accomplish my goals and dreams regardless because I have a bright future even if during the pandemic. I hope that inspires people around us.”
The pageant’s other winners were:
- Miss Philippines Air – Ameera Almamari from Atimonan, Quezon
- Miss Philippines Water – Rocel Angelah Songano from Iloilo City
- Miss Philippines Fire – Roni Meneses from Mandaluyong City
- Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism – Sofia Lopez Galve from Tanay, Rizal
It’s the second time Miss Earth Philippines held its coronation virtually since the pandemic occurred.
This year’s theme ‘Colors of the Earth’ aimed to highlight the country’s unique and vast biodiversity.
