After wrapping up his training in Los Angeles, Filipino boxing champ Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao immediately boarded a flight to Las Vegas.
There, he met with opponent Yordenis Ugas. This is the first time both fighters saw each other face-to-face after the latter was announced as a replacement for Errol Spence Jr.
Pacquiao and Ugas were officially introduced during the grand arrivals ceremony held at the Toshiba Plaza in front of T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday (Wednesday PH Time).
According to the Pambansang Kamao, this fight will be an opportunity for him to take back the WBA Super welterweight title that he was stripped of early this 2021.
Not long after, Ugas rose to claim the title.
“Ugás is a fighter. He’s a champion. He took my belt, but I’ll see him later in the ring,” Pacquiao said in a report from ABS-CBN.
For his part, Ugas said he will dedicate this fight to the people of his nation.
“I’m a fighter not only inside of the ring, but outside of the ring I fight for the freedom of my people,” Ugas told GMA Sports.
“That’s the most important thing to me. I hope everyone fighting for freedom in Cuba is safe and knows that I’ll be fighting for them on Saturday,” he added.
Ugas and Pacquiao are scheduled to meet in the ring on Saturday, August 21 ( Sunday, August 22 in PH).
