One of the top hospitals in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed), brought home the gold award from the recently concluded International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Golden World Awards for Excellence (GWA).
The medical center came out on top of the crisis communications online category for its COVID-19 Information Program, which means it meets international standards of excellence when it comes to public relations.
“This year, we had a record number of entries and a cascade of imagination,” IPRA President and Jury Chairman Philippe Borremans said.
Out of the 93 winners from all over the globe, MakatiMed is one of only four that came from the Philippines.
According to MakatiMed President and CEO Atty. Pilar Nenuca Almira and MakatiMed Medical Director Dr. Saturnino Javier, public relations is an important factor in mitigating the impact of the pandemic, specifically in the country where fake news is rampant.
This is why the hospital has taken the role of being the watchdog, serving as a reliable source of information for the public during this uncertain period.
The GWA is held annually by IPRA, aiming to champion the ethical practice of public relations all over the world.
