After signing with Radnicki Kragujevac of the First Women’s Basketball League of Serbia, homegrown talent Jack Animam has become the first-ever Filipina to play professional basketball in Europe.

On August 23, sports agency East-West Private, who also handles Kai Sotto, announced Animam’s inclusion in the Serbian club.

“Words can’t express how happy we our for @animamjd for trailblazing the path for young women and girls in the Philippines and for that matter all over the world,” the agency wrote on Instagram.

The 22-year-old said she’s excited to represent the Philippines in the league and serve as an inspiration for young girls who also want to try their hand in sports.

“I’m not just doing this for myself but also for my fellow Filipinos, especially the younger girls…every time that I go out there, I show to everyone that Filipino basketball can play as well not just in the Philippines, but also in the international level,” Animam shared in a live press conference.

Animam will be flying out of the country this Friday (August 27) to join her new team.

In 2019, Animam was among the Philippines’ representatives in the 30th SEA Games – the team that won the country’s first gold in the women’s basketball category.
