Filipino-Canadian child actor Gordon Cormier has been cast as the lead for Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the much-loved animated series ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’

Cormier will play protagonist Aang, a 12-year-old with the power to control the four elements and is tasked with the duty of bringing peace to a world of conflict. 

In an Instagram post, Cormier expressed his excitement over the new project. 

“Wow! I’m so honored to be casted as the legendary Aang in Netflix’s live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender! Yip yip!” The young actor wrote.

“It’s going to be a crazy ride! I want to thank production for casting me!” He added.

Apart from Cormier, Netflix has also released the list of actors who’ll play other pivotal roles in the series: Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko.

Before being cast as Aang, 11-year-old Cormier was best-known for his roles in Disney’s ‘Gabby Duran and the Unsittables,’ Netflix’s ‘Lost in Space,’ and Paramount Plus’ ‘The Stand.’

Albert Kim, known for ‘Nikita’ and ‘Sleepy Hollow,’ will serve as the series showrunner. Meanwhile, Rideback’s Dan Lin, known for ‘The Lego Movie’ and ‘Aladdin,’ will join as executive producer along with ‘Swamp Thing’s’ Michael Goi.

Roseanne Liang will co-executive produce and will join Goi and Jabbar Raisani as directors.
