The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the completion of a new slope protection structure at a portion of Tagudin-Cervantes Road in the Municipality of Suyo, Ilocos Sur.
In a statement on Sunday (August 1), the department said the 85-meter shotcrete-sprayed structure at the landslide-prone road section in Barangay Man-Atong will provide protection to motorists.
According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the finished project will reduce accidents and stabilize the slope during rainy seasons.
“We are confident that this new structure will minimize roadway cuts and stabilizes the slope especially during this rainy season, therefore ensuring safety of motorists and unimpeded delivery of agricultural produce,” Villar explained.
DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan noted that the structure will help in getting health and medical supplies faster to people in Man-Atong.
“With this new project, the town of Suyo can also benefit from safer and unhampered delivery of medical and other essential services especially in this pandemic,” Tan emphasized.
The project had a total budget of Php 30 million and was constructed under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
