The Siquijor Airport has been given a new lease on life after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) completed its major rehabilitation operations on the site.
According to the DOTr, the site’s structure was so dilapidated that passengers had to sit on the grass while waiting for their flight.
The department also noted that the infrastructures of the airport were so rundown that they had to take action quickly, seeking help from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to address the situation.
As part of its overhaul, the airport underwent several massive changes, which includes the putting up of a new passenger terminal building (PTB), a powerhouse, and a vehicular parking area (VPA).
Though a lot of changes have been put in place, Transportation Secretary Art Tugade declared that this is just the start.
“Tapos na ba tayo rito? Hindi po. Improvements must continue, development must continue,” he shared in a Facebook post.
With these developments being put in place, Tugade said the airport has not only improved its mobility and connectivity but also bolstered Siquijor’s economy and tourism.
