The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have tapped Grab Philippines to give out rewards and benefits to transport workers who’ll opt to get the COVID-19 vaccine, a move that aims to boost vaccine confidence in the sector.
Under the partnership, a handful of initiatives will be rolled out, focusing on encouraging transport workers to get the jab. It will include discounted rides, promo vouchers, and a P250,000 GrabPay raffle.
DOTr Secretary Art Tugade said it’s important to get employees of the transport sector to get vaccinated as it will bring back commuter confidence. He also underscored the need to ramp up vaccination initiatives for people within the industry.
“Kailangan nating ibalik ang kumpiyansa ng mga tao sa paggamit ng pampublikong transportasyon. Kung bakunado ka, mas protektado ka laban sa COVID-19,” Tugade explained.
Apart from improving the adoption of vaccines for transport workers, the trio of DOTr, LTFRB, and Grab are planning to launch mobile vaccination hubs to fast-track inoculation in and outside of Metro Manila.
The ride-hailing company has promised to donate vaccine supplies to the mobile hub cause and collaborate with the Department of Health (DOH) to make it work.
According to Grab Philippines Country Head Grace Vera Cruz, they’re committed to supporting the government when it comes to battling COVID-19 in the Philippines.
“We believe that by getting more of our transport stakeholders inoculated, we are doing right by our communities, help[ing] enhance socio-economic activities, and boost[ing] our prospects of recovery,” Vera Cruz said.
