According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), two more Filipino nationals have been evacuated from the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.

The department said the two arrived safely in Qatar and the United Kingdom.

With this recent development, there are now a total of 187 Filipinos evacuated from the Middle Eastern nation. However, the DFA estimates that there are still 24 kababayans waiting for rescue inside the country.

The foreign office has declared an Alert Level 4 in Afghanistan after the city of Kabul was invaded by the Taliban forces early this August. This means that the repatriation and evacuation of Filipinos in the country will be mandatory.

Just last week, the country was shocked by another tragedy after a suicide bombing occurred in the capital’s airport killing numerous Afghan natives, 12 American soldiers, and 2 British civilians.

The DFA denounced the recent attack and the ongoing threats inside the country.

“The Philippines strongly condemns the terrorist attacks and continuing threats in Afghanistan. We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and our fervent hope for the swift recovery of those who were injured,” the department said in a statement.
