Five major infrastructure projects under President Rodrigo Duterte’s Build, Build, Build Program is expected to be completed this 2021, according to the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa).
The projects, which are collectively worth P18.49 billion, consists of coastal roads and flood control systems.
During a hearing of the House Committee on Mindanao Affairs chaired by Lanao del Norte Rep. Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo, MinDa Deputy Executive Director Romeo Montenegro said these five projects represent 52.44 percent of the BBB plans to be implemented in the region, which is worth P35.26-billion.
“We have seen the accomplishments of the Duterte administration in terms of infrastructure. We have big-ticket projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which have reached roughly 80 percent that can be completed next year,” Dimaporo said.
We also have big-ticket projects that are 50 percent completed already that we still need to fight for so that Mindanao can ensure that it will be completed in the succeeding administration,” he added.
Of the P4.72 trillion budget for the BBB program, Montenegro said Mindanao obtained 11.69 percent, which is equal to P551-billion.
According to Montenegro, P35.44 billion worth of infrastructure is scheduled to be finished in 2022. And in 2023, the region will complete nine BBB projects priced at P274 billion.
“This is based on the indicated timelines for milestone accomplishment every year of these long-gestating and multi-year BBB projects,” Montenegro said.
Also present during the hearing was Department of Transportation (DOTr) Project Management Officer Richard Villanueva, who presented the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP).
The DOTr also expects partial operation of the Tagum – Davao- Digos Segment of the Mindanao Railway Project (MRP) by March 2022 and expects to achieve full operations by June 2023.
