The NLEX Corporation is planning to fast-track rehabilitation works on the Meycauayan Bridge and Bigaa Bridge in Bulacan.
On Sunday, the company announced that they plan to finish work on the two bridges a month ahead of schedule.
NLEX Corp. President Luigi Bautista said work is now expected to be completed on August 16 instead of September 15. He adds that the contractor has agreed to their new terms of completion.
“We have reached a significant breakthrough in our discussions with our contractor so we can finish ahead of schedule and provide motorists with safer and more convenient travel before the ‘ber’ months begin. Barring any unforeseen events, the accelerated completion date of Bigaa Bridge is August 11, instead of August 31, and the substantial completion date for Meycauayan is August 16, instead of September 15,” he shared.
Bautista mentioned that they’ve already finished the rehabilitation of Meycauayan Bridge’s southbound portion while work on the opposite segment started on Sunday.
Bigaa Bridge’s rehab works on the northbound segment are continuing smoothly, Bautista noted.
While work is ongoing on the two bridges, NLEX Corp. has implemented strategies to address congestion with the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“We are thankful to our partners in DPWH for allowing us to use the service road for light vehicles so we can maintain four lanes in each direction to ease congestion and serve motorists better,” Bautista said.
Work on the 60-year-old bridges started in April this year, which involves the replacing of its support mechanism, specifically the girders and slabs.
According to Bautista, replacement of these parts are crucial to keeping the bridge stable and reliable and, of course, maintaining the safety of motorists.
