Filipino tennis player Alex Eala has achieved another level of success after managing to enter the juniors singles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals of the JA Milan tournament 61° Trofeo Bonfiglio.
The 16-year-old defeated No. 13 seed Ksenia Zaytseva of Russia, 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5 in her third-round match at Court 8 of Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossa.
Before this, Eala triumphed over Brenda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-2, in her first match and outplayed Kayla Cross of Canada, 6-1, 6-1, in her second.
After overcoming the Russian, Eala will face off against Sofia Costoulas of Belgium in the quarters.
In the doubles category, Eala teamed up with the US’ Madison Sieg and scored another win against her third-round singles foe Zaytseva and her partner Yaroslava Bartashevich, 6-4, 6-3.
In the first and second round, Sieg and Eala outclassed Stefania Bojica of Romania and Matilde Jorge of Portugal, 6-2, 6-1, and Russians Anastasiia Gureva and Ekaterina Maklakova, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, respectively.
The pair will go against Russian Kira Pavlova and Diana Shnaider in the semifinals.
In June this year, Eala won the 2021 French Open doubles category with partner Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva.
However, she failed to go further in the girls’ singles after losing in the first round against Matilda Mutavdzic of Great Britain.
