The Creamline Cool Smashers has climbed to the lead spot of the PVL’s Open Conference after defeating Petro Gazz, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22, 25-20, yesterday at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
The match between the two teams was close throughout, however, the trio of Tots Carlos, Jia Morado, and Alyssa Valdez powered through the Angels.
Valdez contributed a team-high score of 16 points during the clash while Carlos came to the rescue when Jema Galanza dealt with an apparent knee injury.
According to Valdez, Carlos knows her role very well and can produce results when the situation requires it.
“Like what coach said, Tots is always ready and she knows her role. It’s very professional of her to have that kind of mentality. That’s why when she enters the game she produces not just for herself,” Valdez said.
Meanwhile, Carlos noted that they expected nothing less from their foe.
“We really expected a high level of play [against Petro Gazz]. And we came in prepared,” said Carlos, who pitched in seven hits in the last two frames of the match
“If we had lapses, we have to fill in. And I’m always ready like what my coaches and my teammates remind me,” she added.
With this win, the Cool Smashers have increased their winning streak to 22 games. The team went unrivaled in the 2019 season, sweeping all their opponents with a 20-0 record.
Creamline will face the PHL Army next this coming Thursday (July 22) at 3 p.m.
