The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has opened five new passport service centers in Metro Manila to accommodate the backlog of appointments caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
DFA Undersecretary Brigido Dulay announced the location of the new sites on Monday (July 5). The location of the new service centers will be:
- SM Mall of Asia
- SM City North Edsa
- SM Aura
- Robinsons Place Las Piñas
- Robinsons Place Magnolia
With the opening of the new centers, DFA will be able to process an additional 177,500 slots until the end of 2021. According to Dulay, the sites will be available Monday to Saturday and will accommodate 500 people every day.
The public will be able to book an appointment through DFA’s passport appointment website.
Though operations have now been significantly expanded, Dulay advises those who don’t have immediate travel plans to postpone their passport appointments to a later date, noting there’s no penalty for renewals after expiration.
Meanwhile, those who are in a hurry to renew are encouraged to contact DFA for assistance.
Before the pandemic, DFA was able to process 13,000 passport appointments daily. But when the coronavirus spread, the national agency’s efficiency dropped by 50 percent.
