After half a decade wearing his iconic number 23 jersey, LeBron James will be changing things up next season by going back to number 6.
James has been wearing the number 23 jersey for most of his basketball career – 11 seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers and his first three with the Lakers. Meanwhile, his number 6 jersey is best known when he played for the Miami Heat from 2010-2014.
According to a report by The Athletic, the changing of James’ jersey is connected to his starring role in ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy.’ The publication said the 36-year-old, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be sporting the number in the film.
The move is now among one of the most high-profile number changes in the NBA’s history since Kobe Bryant replaced his No. 8 jersey for the No. 24 in the 2006 to 2007 season.
James’ new film is expected to hit theatres in the summer on July 14. The movie follows after the first film, which was released in 1996 and was top-billed by basketball legend Michael Jordan.
