San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has officially made Skyway Stage 3’s Quirino southbound ext available to motorists, easing travel time between Quezon City and Manila.
SMC President and CEO Ramon S. Ang said the opening of the new pathway will greatly reduce traffic in major thoroughfares and roads.
“With more private vehicles diverted to Skyway Stage 3 on their way back from NLEX, or coming from Quezon Ave., to Manila, traffic on our major public roads as well as on streets usually utilized as ‘short cuts’ or ‘alternate routes,’ will be a thing of the past,” Ang explained.
“This will redound to relief from congestion and faster and easier commutes for many of our countrymen on our major thoroughfares,” he stressed.
From now on, motorists can travel from Balintawak and Quezon Avenue to Manila in less than 20 minutes – a drastic change from the usual 1 hour and 30-minute journey even without traffic. However, only class 1 vehicles can be accommodated at the moment.
Stage 3 of the Metro Manila Skyway was opened early in January of this year. The road connects Buendia to Balintawak and vice versa.
According to Ang, they remain devoted to their goal of providing a lighter travel experience to motorists.
“We remain dedicated to providing convenient and seamless travel for motorists to help decongest Metro Manila and enable growth in all areas that we reach,” he said.
Once fully operational, Skyway 3 will alleviate overcrowding in main roads like EDSA and C5.
“The full completion of Skyway Stage 3 will divert at least 75,000 vehicles away from Edsa or C5. This is a realization of President Duterte’s promise to decongest Edsa. Skyway Stage 3 is proof that the private sector and the government can work together towards a unified solution,” said Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, who led the opening of the pathway with Ang.
