NLEx Corporation has announced a fast-tracking of its projects this 2021, specifically the Candaba Viaduct and the NLex Connector Road.
In their official statement, the company highlighted the need to undertake the projects as quickly as possible, noting it’ll help boost the country’s economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With all these ongoing projects, we believe that we are helping our country bounce back quickly from the global health crisis. We are not just building roads, but we are also helping build a more resilient economy,” President and General Manager Luigi Bautista said in a statement released yesterday (May 3).
According to Bautista, the infrastructure projects are moving forward smoothly even with stricter regulations imposed by the national government.
Bautista said they’re carrying out the construction carefully whilst keeping safety protocols a priority.
“We are following our timelines and have contingencies in place to be able to accomplish our projects amid the community quarantine,” he said.
So far, the company has finished building 32 percent of the first 5 kilometers of the NLex Connector Road, particularly the Caloocan to España section. It’s expected to be completed this year. The remaining 3 kilometers – between España and Sta. Mesa in Manila – will see construction start in the second quarter of 2021.
Meanwhile, the Candaba Viaduct’s upgrade, which runs from Pulilan, Bulacan to Apalit, Pampanga, is already at 92 percent – to be completed within May.
Besides these projects, NLEx is also conducting rehabilitation operations for two of its bridges in Bulacan, the Meycauayan and Bigaa bridges. The company says the structures were built in the 1960s and are undergoing reinforcement.
Both bridges are set to complete strengthening within the year.
