Fans waiting for the next season of Money Heist, Netflix’s popular crime-thriller series, can now breathe a sigh of relief after the streaming giant dropped the date for the show’s final volume.

According to Netflix, the fifth season of the much-beloved show will be released in two parts – the first on September 3rd and the other on December 3rd.

The show’s last hurrah will conclude with a 10-hour arc, which will be divided into five episodes each for Part 1 and Part II.

According to series creator Álex Pina, writing the fifth season of the series was challenging as he had to create an atmosphere worthy of a finale while at the same time focusing on the emotional journey of the characters.

“When we began to write Part 5 in the midst of the pandemic, we felt that we had to change what was expected from the ten-episode season and used every tool we could to create the sensation of a season finale or series finale in the first volume itself,” Pina explained.

“We decided to work in an extremely aggressive genre, putting The Gang on the ropes. In volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters. It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure,” he added.

Alongside the date confirmation, Netflix dropped a minute-long trailer teasing Money Heist’s last season.

In the video, the group is seen fighting against the onslaught of the Spanish military without the cunning of their leader, The Professor, who’s been captured by Sierra.

Through the last seconds of the video, the team can be seen surrounded by the military might of authorities unable to escape.

The fifth season of the show will feature new additions in the form of Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Spanish Academy Award-nominee Patrick Criado.

Meanwhile, Úrsula Coberó, Álvaro Morte, Itziar Ituño, Pedro Alonso, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, Esther Acebo, Enrique Arce, Darko Peric, Hovik Keuchkerian, Luka Peros, Belén Cuesta, Fernando Cayo, Rodrigo de la Serna, Najwa Nimri and José Manuel Poga are all returning for the show’s last season.
