The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has officially launched the construction of three new concourses along the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) on Tuesday (May 18).
The new transportation hubs are expected to make travel more comfortable along the historic thoroughfare for users of the bus system.
DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said the three new concourse infrastructures will bring real change to EDSA.
Tugade noted that the loading and unloading of passengers will be much safer with the construction of the new bus hubs. Inside the concourse, ticketing booths and a dedicated concierge desk will be built.
A new automated fare collection system (AFCS) will also be implemented to increase convenience for travelers.
The EDSA Busway Concourse Project is a partnership between the DOTr and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPHI), which is a subsidiary of conglomerate SM Investments Corporation.
The project has a price tag of P120 million and is expected to be completed in 10 months or sometime in 2022.
It will be built in strategic locations at SM North Edsa, Megamall, and Mall of Asia.
