Filipino tennis sensation Alexandra “Alex” Maniego Eala has advanced by 22 spots in the recently updated World Tennis Association (WTA) Pro Women’s Rankings – and is set to place even higher after a stunning debut at the W60 Switzerland.
The 15-year-old tennis phenom is now ranked 715th in WTA’s Women’s Rankings released on April 5 – a big jump from her previous placement of 737th back on March 15.
Eala achieved her current career-high placement after her stint at the Miami Open in Florida.
Although she earned a spot as a wildcard competitor, the Filipina tennis player lost in the qualifiers to Slovakia’s Viktoria Kuzmova – who’s number 104 in the WTA Rankings.
Though just recently promoted, Eala is expected to place even higher in the rankings after debuting at the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) W60 Bellinzona tilt with a win against WTA’s number 323, who hails from France, Margot Yerolymos.
Eala snagged her first win in the tournament against the 23-year-old Yerolymos with a score of 7-6(6), 6-2 at Bellinzona Tennis Club’s clay court on Monday (April 6).
The young Filipina ace will face off with Romanian tennis player Laura-Ioana Paar in her second match. The two previously butted rackets back in February of this year’s W25 Grenoble held in France- with Eala besting the 32-year-old in the first round of the tournament.
Eala entered the W60 Bellinzona through the Junior Exempt Program. She currently holds the 3rd spot in the ITF’s World Junior Player ranking.
In January, Eala managed to take her first-ever professional title at the W15 Manacor Championship in Spain – a feat she achieved after turning pro back in 2020.
